5k Weekend Wrap-Up

Hard to believe the 2nd Annual #jandk5k weekend was already a week ago! It was a HUGE SUCCESS! We had such a blast. Yes, we were all a little sore the next day, but that's to be expected :) Friday night the weekend kicked off with a team dinner...now the weekend didn't lack just a bit of drama...Friday night's dinner was supposed to be outside in a gorgeous backyard, but at around 11:30am our 0% chance of precipitation turned into 30% and it looked like it was going to be a mix of rain & thunderstorms all afternoon and evening *small, yet controlled panic ensues* SO...we kicked into high gear and moved the party indoors. Everyone made it and we were nice & dry the whole time! We kicked off the party with champagne, ate some yummy Maggiano's for dinner, mingled a bit & then we played an all request show! It was so fun getting to talk with everyone that had flown or driven in for the event!

We didn't party too late into the night because we all had to be up bright and early for the 5k the next morning. We met up about 45 minutes before the race...looking super "team-like" all in our matching j&k5k tee's ;) We had an awesome cheering section and everyone made it across the finish line! Woohooooo! Team j&k is AWESOME!

We then tailgated post-race with donuts, coffee and other treats. It was a beautiful day in Nashville so we all loved chatting in the sunshine and we obviously took about a million pictures.

Then we sent everyone off to discover our lovely town...or take naps...because everyone needed to be rested up for the Acoustic Covers Release Show. Guys, this show probably  made it into our Top 5 shows...ever!!! The room was packed and the energy was amazing. People were singing along to both the covers and our own songs...ahh....it was AMAZING!!!! It was the perfect way to end our 5k weekend :)

We will definitely be doing the 5k weekend again next year...so mark your iCal's ;) We want YOU to be a part of it. If you aren't a runner...that's okay...you have plenty of time to train or we have people that walk the 5k...challenge yourself...you can do it...and besides...we are ALL in this together!

Thanks to everyone we made our 5k weekend so awesome. We love you all.

xo

PS. A big thank you to Ryan, Carly & Emily for being our OUTSTANDING team for this event...they took care of every detail and took such good care of all of our people who traveled in for the weekend....thanks guys...we couldn't have done it without you!

Thanksgiving Wrap-Up

We had such an awesome Thanksgiving! Thursday was a gorgeous, somewhat COLD morning  (and despite the chilly temperatures) we decided to go for a run! We've been working our way through the 10k training program and had a longer run to do but what a perfect time to do it...since we were planning on gorging ourselves on turkey and all of the other deliciousness! We bundled up and did 5 miles! OMG. It was long. But felt SO great when we were done. Good enough for Kate to frolic in a nearby field out of glee & excitement. photo 1

We spent the rest of the morning cooking and putting the final touches on the dishes that we were bringing to our friends' house that we were spending Thanksgiving with. We loaded in the car and headed over!

photo 2

We had second thoughts about whether or not we should have buckled in the food...it was that tasty :) Haha! (Yes, that's a purchased Pumpkin Pie from Costco. We dare you to say that your homemade one is better...cause it's delicious. Delicious.)

photo 5-1

This was the beautiful table spread. Our friend Jenny is the hostess with the mostest. She is pretty much Suzy  Homemaker meets Martha Stewart times a hundred. Yup. Her house is adorable and we were pumped to celebrate Thanksgiving with good friends that really feel like family!

Feast!

It might be the most perfect plate...ever.

Besties.

What to do after eating a HUGE meal? A few rounds of Heads Up of course! Such a fun game.

Post nap cuddles from Mr. Cutie himself.

We seriously had the best time. So many things to be thankful for. We seriously could not be more thankful for the love and support we've felt from you over the year (s).

Hope you had a magical Thanksgiving or if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, hope you had an awesome Thursday.

LOVE,

j&k

Things We're Digging Right Now

Some stuff we're frequenting or enjoying or overusing or loving right now:

  • Pumpkin Soup. We cannot vouch for any other brand, but the Trader Joe's one rules and it comes in a cute, little box. You just rip off the top, heat it up and it's delicious! And who doesn't love things in tiny boxes? soup
  • Couch to 10k App. We had familiarized ourselves with the Couch to 5k app and decided this fall was a great time to embark on a longer running goal. NO, we haven't signed up for a 10k yet...we're just using it as a training guide. The program is amazing and we are both running further than we thought humanly possible!
  • Paramore. No new concept here but just now listening to their latest record and loving it...it frequents the iPod while running.65967_10150278113904963_185339492_n
  • Jeremy Cowart & Jon Acuff. These are two new friends we met recently . Jeremy is a ridiculously talented photographer (he just shot our friend KC's Xmas cover & Billboard cover) and is also launching a new App called OKDOTHIS later this month. Jon is a New York Times best selling author and has an awesome blog on life and leadership--he's also really funny. But it's not the stuff that these guys do that makes us thankful we met them...they are kind, humble and genuinely nice guys. We need more good men like this. Go follow these guys...
  • Pumpkin Flax Granola. Oops. Didn't even realize that this food item was also pumpkin related. We're a little embarrassed now. But guys, this granola is GOOD. Like, eat all year round good. npa-890072
  • The Good Wife. It's finally on Hulu Plus and we just can't get enough. Kate had watched some previous seasons but we both have been watching it from the start! Who doesn't love Julianna Margulies? We definitely do. Unknown

What are you digging right now?

Be awesome.

Cool Running (s).

It's finally cooling off in the early mornings which means that running outside again is actually an option :) YAY! Cause during the summer months it is absolute torture for me to run outside. Heat makes me turn into a whiney 3 year old. Not attractive. But now it's a wee bit cooler in the morning so I have meandered outside again for my run. Running outside is one of my favorite things.

I was thinking about some of my favorite runs over the years...There was one...it was when we were in England last fall...and we running through the fields and there were sheep. SHEEP. Just grazing around beautifully. It was cool but not cold. The sun was shining, blue sky and rolling green hills.

IMG_6960

We both could have sworn that Mr. Darcy was going to meet us at the end of the path. Oh yes, we were running down a path (said in my best British accent)..not just a sidewalk. Seriously...where were the women of Sense & Sensibility??I swear I could hear them in my head.

IMG_6956

Guys, did I mention the sheep? There were the most adorable sheep. We both took pictures having staring contests with them....hehee...

IMG_6969

IMG_6970

So yeah...that pretty much was one of my very favorite runs EVER. Who's getting back out into the cooler weather with me?

Happy trails.

-k

PS. My apologies to those who thought this blog was going to be about the 1993 super smash hit blockbuster, "Cool Runnings."  I mean...I did love that movie.Okay fine..here is a quote from the movie for your enjoyment: "Hey, Dreadlocks! Let me kiss your lucky egg!"

We Are A Team.

What a weekend. Seriously. Our legs are sore and our bodies are tired from super early mornings but HOLY CRAP...we had such a great weekend. This past weekend we had our very first (of hopefully many) #j&k5k weekends. People flew in from all over the world...yes WORLD (Nathalie for the win)...to hang out with us in our fabulous little city that we call home. The weekend kicked off with a rockin' team dinner held at a Hibachi place.

The next morning we ran a 5k...how cute is our team?

Before the 5k we had the distinct pleasure of singing the national anthem pre-race.

We even got to meet the mayor...Hey Karl Dean.

And we're off!!! Runninggggggg.

It was so fun seeing our bright shirts in the crowd!

WOOHOO crossing the finishing line!!! (Don't be confused that it says "start" we promise it said  "finish" on our side :)

Kate with her mom & sister. It was their first 5k ever...so proud of them!

We tailgated post race & embraced the warmth of the sunshine. We ate muffins, donuts, re-fueled with coffee and chit-chatted about you know..this and that. And Ryan took lots of fun pics of us that we will post at a later time...we were kind of group-photo-happy.

Later that evening we all gathered in loft office spaces that a team of Über creative professionals transformed into the perfect sound stage for the recording of our live album Heart of Stone.

Our super talented friend Emily came out and took pictures for us. We will post some of her pics soon...they're amazing!

After looking back and thinking about the weekend we've talked about a lot of things. One of the things that struck us the most is how much fun WE had. While planning this event we talked a lot about making sure that our "attendees" would have a kick-A time and we never really thought about us having a good time. Not that we thought we'd have a bad time but you know what we mean.

We were seriously blown away by the quality of people that came to hang with us. They're all amazing and are really super, awesome people that happen to like our music & us enough to come spend the weekend with us. What? How cool is that?

We feel super lucky.

And you guys. There is something really amazing about coming together as a team. You have no idea how inspired we are/were by the folks that surrounded us. It opened our eyes to the fact that yet again, people are AMAZING. The stories of friendship we heard brought tears to our eyes. The funny stories we heard made us laugh 'til we cried. The heartbreaking stories of struggle and pain. Of sickness and the unknowns. We all toughed out 3.1 miles together. Cheering for each other. We were a team.

We weren't only a team out on the course that day either. We were a team during the 55 minutes we hit record and played a show. Even if you weren't in the room we knew we had our team in the room with us. We felt love from all over the world cheering us on for our live recording...thank goodness for technology because we felt the love...we saw the tweets, the FB messages, the Instagrams...we saw the smiling faces in the room and we heard the voices singing along. We are a team.

Much love,

j&k

Boredom, Running and Scenic Drives

Boredom at its finest backstage.

Okay...maybe THIS is boredom at its finest backstage.

Boredom also leads to sticking tiny silver hearts on our cheeks. Pretty sure you can only see Lesley's. #picturefail

Y'all have been asking for pics of the birthday girl on her birthday...here ya go!

A little karaoke action in Denver for Jill's bday.

Birthday hats = serious party time.

Gorgeous drive to Seattle!

Seriously unreal.

Still driving to Seattle...

An afternoon in San Francisco!!!

OO-AH run club run across the Golden Gate bridge...AND back. (pic taken by kate while running...notice finger in bottom left hand corner!)

That's kate running...

After a fun day of running and wandering around downtown SF, we had fabulous food at the Crab House...and a delicious MOJITO! Yummy.

Jason was all bibb-ed and ready to go.

We saw the sea lions just chillin' on the pier.

Finished off the night with ice cream....

We just got to celebrate our dear friend & bandmate Einar's birthday...HOORAY!

Driving to Bakersfield we saw these crazy orange flowers...

After the Bakersfield show we met a new friend TeriAnn & she gave us these adorable purses that she MADE HERSELF. Along with a super sweet handwritten note inside. (Jill's purse isn't pictured but it is equally adorable!) We love them & cannot wait to use them.

So there you have it...those are some pics from the last week or so...

Can't believe it is almost April....wowza.
