You Are A Gift - Day 25 #31DaysOfBlogging

It’s Christmas Day! Merry Christmas!

As we thought about what we wanted to post today, we wanted to talk about gifts…because that’s what is on everyone’s mind right now, right?

Well, we are here to tell you that YOU ARE A GIFT.

Thank you for being you. The world needs more of you, just as you are. This is not to say that we all can’t grow, change, evolve, and become even better versions of ourselves...we can, and we will all do that in our lives.

BUT, today we just want to remind you that YOU, as is, with all of your talents and quirks and individuality and loveliness that you bring to the world, are a gift, not only to us, but to everyone who encounters you.

So, thanks for the gift of you.

It is just what the world needs. So, don’t try to be someone else, just be you…because you are enough, and you are valuable, worthy, and loved.

Merry Christmas, and may we all be each other’s best gifts!

Much love from your favorite goof-balls,

You Are Not Alone - Day 1 #31DaysofBlogging

It’s December 1st, which means that it’s time to kick off #31DaysofBlogging :) Woohoo! This is one of our favorite traditions that we’ve started because it causes us to look back at the year behind us and get excited for the new year ahead. We love writing and using this blog to share thoughts, stories, recipes, etc. with you. So, bookmark this page because for the next 30 days, we will be posting a new blog every day and you don’t want to miss any of the fun!

With all of the holiday celebrations already in full swing, we wanted to make sure that you were aware of a couple things:

We want to send you a Christmas card and you have 7 more days to get your address to us.

Just click here, fill out your address, and voila … a Christmas card shall appear in your mailbox. A real, handwritten card from yours truly.  Can I get an AMEN for fun mail and not another bill…AMIRIGHT? AMEN and AMEN. No strings attached. It’s just our way of thanking you for being an amazing community/tribe. So, whatcha waiting for?

The holidays can be hard. We totally get it. Whether you are in the middle of a tense relationship, find yourself experiencing a new loss, or just personal reasons have got you feeling down in the dumps, the holidays can just feel extra hard.

There can also be a lot of expectation that you bring to the table during the holidays — you thought things would look different by now or you were hoping for a different outcome and you find yourself in the same place. Honestly, we have both been there. Part of why we started the walkabout was because we were feeling so stuck that we knew we had to do something drastic to get out of the “stuck-ness.” I remember saying, “I just don’t want to show up for Christmas in the exact same state that I did last year. Something has to change.” So, last year, we sold everything and spent 2018 on a “walkabout.”

We’ll tell you more about that tomorrow, but if you are feeling super alone right now, we invite you to listen to this song - Tired of Being Alone — and know that you are not alone.

Tomorrow we’ll tell you more about our journey of getting unstuck. Until then, know you’re loved and not alone. Leave a comment if you need an extra boost this holiday season.

Much love,

The Eve

Hey guys!

Merry Christmas Eve! This is the 24th day in a row that we’ve been blogging for #31DaysofBlogging and we’ve got to say...we’re pretty proud of ourselves. HA!

So it’s Christmas Eve and if you’re like us...anticipation is high, some family dynamics are starting to really shine (haha) and well, you’re likely looking for an escape.

As I (Kate) was looking through Instagram yesterday (as an escape) I had to literally say to myself: I will not compare my Christmas to anyone else’s. I will not compare my Christmas to anyone else’s. I find that’s what we do when we we’re looking for an escape sometimes. And, I am all about an escape when you need a minute alone, just don’t let that escape put you in the mindset that someone else has it better or someone else’s life is shinier/happier or more perfect than yours. Don’t miss what’s right in front of you. You are in that exact spot for a reason. You can easily miss it if you’re on your phone wishing you were someplace else.

I know for me, if I can focus on the present moment that I’m in and really look for the right-now-good-stuff, I enjoy my time so much more. When I get sucked into looking at my phone I get caught up thinking about what other people have or what other people are doing or what I’m missing or how perfect people are looking in their holiday card photos, etc.

The trick is: stay present and don’t be afraid to put some effort into it. Sometimes you have to create the fun,  sometimes you have to be the bigger person and forgive quickly, sometimes you have to be the one to start the conversation or tell the joke to lighten the mood. We have control over ourselves, no one else, so don’t wait for everyone else to make the magic for you. You are magic, you make the magic.

So, Merry Christmas Eve you wonderous humans We hope all of you have received our Christmas card if you wanted one and that you spend the next couple of days immersed in magic, love, light and the spirit of Christmas.

Jill and Kate

We Want To Send You A Christmas Card

We want a DO OVER. A Christmas card do over.

In 2008, we thought it would be a really fun idea to send all of our amazing fans Christmas cards. You all mean SO much to us and so we thought it would be a great little token of our appreciation. Well, mosssssssst of you received your Christmas cards that year, but a good portion of you did not because the post office monster ATE THEM. Literally. You can read about it here. And here. It was a fiasco.

So, we are going to do it again this year. Hooray! Cause getting something other than billz in the mail RULES ALL.

That’s right. Send us your mailing address because we want to send you a warm holiday greeting in the mail! What’s better than real, actual mail? Nothing!

Email us your snail mail address here and put CHRISTMAS CARD in the title:

We are so grateful for each and every one of you. Seriously, we are so lucky to have you on our team. We always say that we have the greatest, most incredible fan base because you are the best. You all inspire us daily and we are always astounded by the messages, comments and tweets we receive. We couldn’t do what we do without YOU and that’s the truth. We hope you feel our love on this glorious Saturday!

PS. Please send us your address no later than December 8th!

Flying Home #31Days2016

Hey y’all!

Kate here. I am sitting in the airport reflecting over the past week. I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the holiday with friends and family. Most of all, I hope you felt loved.

I have had just over a week with my family and I’m so grateful for time together with them. I don’t have a ton to say…just that I’m grateful and feeling full. My heart is full—full of quality time with family which included playing games, skiing, staying in PJs all day, watching movies, singing & playing instruments…it was glorious.  Also…feeling full of the delicious food and treats…there is nothing like home cooked goodness :) Did you see the homemade caramels my sis-in-law made? I posted a pic on Instagram. OMG. So good.

Skiing with most of the family...

I love the window seat and took this shot as we left Spokane, WA…the sun and the snow…just something magical about floating above it all. And the colors.....WOW.

As I head home, I'm excited for all 2017 has to offer. It’s going to be a GREAT year!

Much love,

How about some more awesome fan photos? YES!

It’s Okay, To Be Not Okay, Even on Christmas. (#31DaysofBlogging)

This blog is a part of a series #31DaysofBlogging … we are going through the year (2015) chronologically.

Merry Christmas Eve!

We are both at home with our families...Kate is in Colorado and Jill is in New Hampshire. We’re having a great time but wanted to take time out to say a few things:

  • Merry Christmas to you and yours. Hope that this season is filled with joy that lasts longer than a day and that you are surrounded by love and light.

  • We are incredibly thankful for you. See, you’ve been giving us gifts all year. Listening to our albums, sending us tweets, commenting on our Facebook messages, coming to shows, supporting Houses of Hope Africa, sending us REAL post office mail, etc. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks for teaching us about kindness and bravery. Thank you for listening to our words, whether in song or on our blog....thank you. You remind us daily that we’re all in this together.

  • We also know that the holidays can be a realllllly hard time for people. It has been for us at times. We don’t say that lightly. We know it. If you want proof, I (Kate) wrote the majority of our song “Don’t Feel A Thing” on Christmas Eve while balling my eyes out locked in my brother’s bathroom. True story. The only holiday cheer I was bringing was bright red, puffy eyes. Chew on those lyrics for a minute and you’ll quickly see that I was not okay. Whatever the reason that makes the season or this particular day difficult...we’re sorry and we send you our warmest hugs and love. It’s okay to not be okay...even on holidays. It’s okay to say no and to honor what is best for you. It’s okay to cry, even on Christmas. This time of year can sometimes bring up the deep, dark stuff we try and push down the rest of the year. If you’re feeling down, look for someone to talk to. A trusted friend, family member or therapist. We’re so happy that the negative stigma of seeking help has pretty much gone out the window. Everyone, and we mean EVERYONE can use someone to talk to. If you’re really in a funk--try helping someone. Help an elderly person at the grocery store. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen. Hand out food to homeless people. Call a friend and offer to babysit for free. Make cookies for your neighbor. Clean the house for your mom. Play with puppies at an animal shelter. Anything helpful. Seriously, it changes something. Also, remind yourself of the truths you know to be true. You are loved. Your life matters. You have a purpose. Hold your hand up to your chest...feel that thing beating? That means that you still have a purpose. You are a world changer. You can do anything. You are special and one of a kind. You are beautiful and worthy of love. And if you’re in a’ll get out of it sometime soon. Unfortunately sometimes the only way out is through...which is hard, but keep going. You’ll get to the other side.

  • The Christmas story is all about the birth of Jesus. Jesus is called Emmanuel which means GOD WITH US. Don’t you just love that? God is about combatting loneliness...that’s why he sent us Jesus. God with us. We truly are never alone. Thanking God for that amazing gift.

Okay, those are our Christmas Eve thoughts for you. Te recap: Merry Christmas, thank you for your gifts to us, it’s okay to not be okay on Christmas, thank you Jesus for being born.

Love you all so much. You really have no idea. We talk about y’all all the time.

Sleep tight.

70 Days! 70 Days!

Hi friends,

Who can believe it’s already October? We cannot. Pumpkin spice this and candy-corn that, oy vey! We don’t know if you’re like us, but sometimes when we hit this part of the year we think, “Well, the year's over. It’s going to be Christmas, like, tomorrow and’s too late to reach any of my goals or do anything major. No more time. Year over. On to the next. Womp womp.” HA! Isn’t it funny what we tell ourselves sometimes? It got us any of that really true? No. Is there still time to get A LOT of stuff done before Christmas? YES. How many weeks until Christmas day? Over 10 weeks. That’s over 70 days people...and we’ve got good news!

There is still time to crush your goals before Christmas!

We feel like the lies in our inner-voices try to tell us that we’re too late. Or we’ve missed out. Or it will happen for everyone else but not for me. PSSSH. We don’t have time for lies, friends...

As we were thinking about this idea, we thought maybe some of you want to crush some goals too? Lord knows we need a posse to keep us motivated and we thought maybe you do too? Wouldn’t it be fun if we all did this together and had a gang of like-minded people reaching for their goals together?

Now, hold up. Some of you may have already stopped reading because you think this is a fitness thing. IT IS NOT. I repeat, IT IS NOT A FITNESS challenge. You can set a goal in any area of life. It could be a personal goal, or a business goal, family goal, or a health one. If they are fitness or health related, that’s awesome too but this is not a “fitness only challenge!” Make it realistic and make it something that YOU want to get accomplished for yourself. Picture yourself waking up Christmas morning...what would make you super pumped to know that you’d accomplished? Start there. If you need some examples...

-write a real-snail-mail-letter to a friend who lives far from you once a week

-cook dinner every Sunday night and invite a different friend to join you

-walk outside twice a week

-grow your email list by 100 people

-read 3 books

-train for a 5k

-volunteer at a homeless shelter

We think one of the greatest gifts we could give ourselves on Christmas morning would be accomplishment. Are we right? Yes! We hope you’re getting a twinge of excitement because we definitely are…knowing that by the 25th of December you will be able to look back and say, “YES! I set a goal (s) and I made it!”

We’re going to use this hashtag on Instagram ----> #jk70challenge if you want to follow along. Maybe we could all share goals (if we wanted to) and then encourage people along the way? Maybe you want to grab a friend and do it together? All we know is this:

  1. If other people are doing it with us, we will feel more motivated not to quit. (Can we get an amen?)
  2. We know when we wake up December 25th we will have given ourselves a SUPER AWESOME gift = accomplishment.

So, in full disclosure, here are two of each of our goals we're gonna set for the next 70 days:

  1. Write a nice hand-written letter to a friend/family member once a week. 10 letters total.
  2. Finish my 10k training app!

  1. Finish two books I'm reading.
  2. Run 70 miles in 70 days.

Alright! We hope this gives you HOPE and a little push to propel yourself to the most awesome person we know you already are!

Much love,
