Hello hello. Jill here. It's rainy and a bit stormy here in Nashville...the type of day that I like to drink coffee and read quotes and poems and be the hipster that I totally am not in real life.
I told you a while back about how I got an iPhone app that has you write 5 things that you're thankful for every day. I've been doing it since the beginning of the year and haven't missed a day yet. I don't know about you, but that is not normal for me. Usually it fizzles out a few weeks in and it goes down in history as a great idea that I never followed through on. Ha! But this app is awesome because it reminds me at the end of each day to be thankful. The other great thing about it is that every day it gives you a quote to think on after you enter your 5 things. I have made a list of some of my favorite quotes and I'll share some of them below.
"Nothing determines who we will become so much as those things we choose to ignore."
"You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do."
"Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape." (I love this one...so true.)
"Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others."
These are just a few, but I have always loved quotes like these. They inspire me to think differently and to be better.
Now onto poetry. My favorite poet is Emily Dickinson...I love her writing. It's quirky and intriguing. She also happens to be from my neck of the woods (New England) so in school, my English teachers really REALLY favored her work. If we weren't reading Emily Dickinson poems, we were reading Robert Frost...another one of my favorites. New England has some good poets...I'm just saying.
Here is my favorite Emily Dickinson poem. (It's one of the only poems I know by heart.)
"I'm nobody! Who are you? Are you nobody, too? Then there's a pair of us -don't tell! They'd banish us, you know.
How dreary to be somebody! How public, like a frog To tell your name the livelong day To an admiring bog!"
I also love this:
"A word is dead when it is said,
I say it just begins to live that day."
So there you have it. My hipster side revealed. Now, I need some more coffee. Bye.
