So, you’ve written down your goals. You’re not comparing, not competing and you’re taking baby steps. NICE WORK SO FAR.

Today we want to tell you about: ACTION items!!!

We heard recently that you need to look at your calendar and see if your calendar is reflecting the goals that you’re setting...because if your calendar is not reflecting it, that probably means that it’s not going to happen.

So, remember baby steps from yesterday? We meet again. Write down 2 (baby step) things that you can do this week to work towards that goal. You don’t have to schedule your whole month. Just look at this next week and add some actionable items that will help you meet your goals or whatever you wrote down.

See, it’s easy to be all talk and dreams and ideas and color-coordinated lists, but when it actually comes to doing it -- actually taking action -- that’s where we can get tripped up.

If your goal is to work out twice a week -- schedule it now. Find the time now. Schedule it. Say what you’re going to do. Example: I am going to walk on Thursday morning before work for 30 minutes, and on Saturday morning I’m taking the spin class at 10am. DONE.

If your goal is to write more, schedule it. Block out the time. If you don’t, you won’t. Because wishing and hoping that you will accomplish something is VERY different than actually DOING it.

So, today…write down those action items. It’s Thursday, so, look at next week. Just do 2 little things. You will be SO PROUD when you’ve accomplished them, and you will be two steps closer to achieving what you wrote down!

If you feel like sharing, tell us in the comments below what you’re tackling!

Much love and ALWAYS cheering you on…

You Gotta Know You - Day #31 #31DaysofBlogging

Guys, here it is, the final day December, 2018!  Another #31DaysofBlogging in the books. We hope these blogs have made you smile, made you think, given you hope, encouraged you, made you LOL and maybe, just maybe made you feel less alone during this crazy month called December.

Here’s the thing, in all honesty, most times January 1st rolls around, we feel a sort of relief after blogging every day and then somehow we forget and don’t blog again until March. YIKES. Well, that’s not going to happen this year. We are wanting to make some changes in 2019, and one of them is blogging more often and engaging more in this space with you guys. Who’s HERE FOR IT? We are.

(somehow this became one of our phrases this year: WE HERE...not sure how or why but the walkabout definitely brought it out of us and now we laugh everytime we say it….and by “say it” we mean “yell it.”) We digress, anyway, GOOD news: we are sticking around...don’t un-bookmark this page just yet.

Looking to 2019, one of our major goals is to ENGAGE more. This past year was a super necessary one for both of us -- personally AND professionally. We were running on empty and needed our tanks filled back up...and OUR TANKS DID IT FILL! During the walkabout, we learned so much, and SO many of you have sent us DMs, emails, tweets, and texts asking us really specific questions about what you were going through, and asking for our advice. You guys, we are SO HONORED that you think of us worthy of giving advice….seriously, we do not take that lightly. And answering so many of these DMs/emails got us thinking. We realized that a lot of you are wanting advice/thoughts/ideas in the SAME AREA of life, and we realized that you guys need to know each other more because there are likeminded people all around this “Jill & Kate community.” Which also means that you who DM’ed us about something don’t know that another person also DM’ed us about the EXACT SAME THING…which means that YOU don’t need to feel so alone.

We got thinking some more and decided that our fans need to know each other more. You guys, we are all going through the same thing. We’re not talking about becoming besties, (well, maybe you will!) but there are so many INCREDIBLE people who are a part of this community -- and you guys don’t know each other. So we were like, what if we created spaces for you to connect in smaller groups WITH US. Bringing together likeminded people who are also finding themselves in similar situations.

In 2018, we learned how to live more exciting, intentional, fulfilling lives, and if we can pass along ANY of that information to you, we want to do that!

Anyway, just some ideas to get swirling in your head. Be on the lookout for more ideas like this.

Thank you for being a part of this crazy journey with us -- 2018 was an incredible year and we are SO PUMPED for 2019! YOU GOT THIS.

Love you all so much,

Jill and Kate

Saying Peace Out To Worry with Lauren Graham - Day 29 #31DaysOfBlogging

One of the things we say a lot on our social media is “We’re all in this together.” We say it a lot because we genuinely mean it — we are all on this crazy journey of life together and anything we learn along the way that might be helpful to you, we want to share it. We love being inspired by people…especially people who are in the entertainment world. People who have no ego or air about them…and when we meet these people, we want to share them with you. You are our people. You are our tribe. You are our community.

So….earlier this year, we asked our friend Lauren Graham if she would be willing to share a conversation with us for our podcast community, and you guys: SHE SAID YES.

This podcast interview with Lauren was a dream come true interview for us, and also one of our most popular of the season. We talked about a lot of things, but one important topic we covered was self-esteem, which is why we named the episode something that Lauren said during the interview, “Why Can’t We All Just Enjoy Ourselves More.” AMEN, y’all, AMEN.

Another one of our favorite things about Lauren is that she has this outlook on life that is one we aspire to have. It is basically summed up in the title of her latest book, In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It. See, there are these seasons in life that we all face...forks in the road we will all come to, where we really don’t know if there’s anything good up ahead, which way we should go, or what the future may hold.

In fact, these seasons, we have found, seem to appear far more often than we’d like them to. We can’t control them, we can’t wish them away, but we can do one thing: We can look at them positively, with hope, instead of fear or dread. We can DECIDE not to worry about what may or may not be around the next corner, and just take the next step that is in front of us.

We always leave our conversations with Lauren feeling a little more positive and hopeful, and a little more relaxed about whatever is up ahead of us. That is the kind of person we can all benefit from being around, #AMIRIGHT? We hope you feel this way too when you hear this episode…while either enjoying it again, or for the first time, if you haven’t heard it yet.

And remember, worrying about things doesn’t help, so you might as well quit it. (Here’s a song of ours to cheer you on in this whole venture.)

Tomorrow we have a SURPRISE for you….

Chatting with Hunter Hayes - Day 28 #31DaysofBlogging

We may have written a song called Nashville recently that may give the false idea that we dislike the city in some way. In all truth, Nashville is a magical place. It is a one of a kind, special, incredible town filled with talented, generous, and interesting people. It is full of a “You never know what could happen” attitude, and we credit our willingness to go find out what could happen in large part to that attitude that is so felt there.

Today we want to tell you about a magical place in Nashville called The Bluebird Cafe.

The Bluebird Cafe is a place for songwriters. They have 2 shows per night, and songwriters sit in chairs in the middle of this tiny (yet magical) venue and take turns telling the stories behind the songs they have written. Audience members are sitting all around the songwriters making it quite intimate. It’s been an iconic venue for a long time, but since the TV show Nashville aired, its popularity skyrocketed. Most shows sell out in under 5 minutes and there can be lines seen halfway down the block on any given day -- people just waiting for any last minute available tickets.

We’ve had the privilege of playing there a few times, and each time we feel the magnitude of what an honor it is to be able to share our songs in the same spot where so many of our song writing heroes have sat and shared theirs.

Not too long ago, our friend and super talented pal, David Bradley asked us to do a round with him and Hunter Hayes. We were pumped! We arrived and got caught up with both of them, and as we were chatting, Hunter asked us what we’d been up to. We told him about the podcast and the idea that we were exploring of talking about “What to do when life doesn’t go the way you planned it.” He was like, “I love that idea -- I’d love to talk to you guys about that on your podcast sometime.” SO THAT WAS AWESOME!

So, we played the round -- which was so much fun. Honestly...if we could do that show every night of the week, we’d be happy. And a few weeks later we went to Hunter’s house and recorded THIS episode. It was one of our favorite conversations because Hunter doesn’t hold back talking about the hard parts of life and the music industry. It’s a MUST listen.

We just want to remind you, in case you are like thinking we have all of these amazing guests planned out and in our pockets ahead of time, we don’t. We want to remind you that sometimes the coolest things in life JUST HAPPEN when you say yes.

So, maybe you need a sign right now that you need to say yes to some opportunity or invitation you have in front of you, and maybe this is your sign, us telling you that you should just DO IT. You don’t know who you may meet, where you might end up, or what door might be opened just from making one small move.

Tomorrow we’ll tell you about interviewing one of our favorite authors who also happens to be a TV/movie/broadway star.

Hope you guys are liking the blogging as much as we are!

Someone To Look To - Day 27 #31DaysOfBlogging

Life can be so intimidating and scary. It can be confusing to know which way to go. When you are chasing a dream, it’s helpful to have someone to look to, someone who has been there before you, walked the road you’re wanting to walk. You need a mentor, an example, a champion.

We have been lucky enough to find a few of these people along the way, but today we want to tell you about one that has had a huge influence on our lives and career.

We first met Jann Arden via Twitter after we covered one of her songs on our blog...way back in like 2010. (You can watch it here, and please disregard Jill’s very DARK hair stage. She learned through that experience that blonde was her true north.)

Jann reached out to us and asked if we wanted to meet up for coffee when she was in Nashville. UH, YEAH. We have been fans of Jann since the mid-90s when we were 14 and her song Insensitive rocked our worlds. We couldn’t believe we were going to actually meet her!

We got together, chatted for hours about music, life, career, and laughed our heads off because she is absolutely one of the funniest people we have ever met. We all stayed in touch, getting together every time we were in the same town, and then Jann asked us to come open her tour in Canada in 2014. Over and over again, Jann encouraged us in our music career. Whether it was shooting us a text or email, listening to our new music, or telling her fans and followers about us, she was always showing support.

As artists, dreamers, and humans, we could not ask for a better example in our lives than Jann…

...and because she is just the best, we were really hoping to have her on our podcast so you guys could hear more from her too. Well, SHE AGREED! We went to Canada in October and interviewed her for Girls Just Pod To Have Fun before her show in Hamilton. She brought inspiration, wisdom, and of course laughter. If you missed this episode, please go listen!

Not only that, but after our interview, she asked us to sing our song Nashville for her audience during her show that night! You can watch that here. Here are some pictures of us getting ready and sound-checking for the show…

So today we just wanted to say thanks to Jann for believing in us, supporting us, and being someone we can look to as we navigate this crazy life. May we all have people like Jann around us, who make us better and bring so much good into our lives….and may we all learn to be those people for others around us too. Love you Jann (and Midi!)

Tomorrow we’ll tell you about one of our very favorite shows we played this year, and another podcast guest that came from that experience!

Heart Goals - Day 26 #31DaysOfBlogging

We hate to alarm anyone, but….

There are ONLY 5 days left until 2019.

Say what? That’s incredible.

One of the most helpful things we’ve learned about starting a new year is how to set goals and how to get organized. One of our real-life BFF’s and business heroes, Whitney English, has this amazing plan to start you off on the right foot.

Here we are in Napa (Whitney is on the left, our other awesome friend Jess on the right!)

Here we are in Napa (Whitney is on the left, our other awesome friend Jess on the right!)

It’s a workbook called Heart Goals and it’s been such a helpful tool to us…we wanted to share it with you. Go check it out!

We talk to Whitney about the Heart Goals in this episode of Girls Just Pod To Have Fun, as well as lots of other fun things like who we would get celebrity pedicures with, donuts, and other generally fun life topics.

We are so lucky to have such incredible, inspiring friends. We know you will love Whitney and Heart Goals as much as we do!

You Are A Gift - Day 25 #31DaysOfBlogging

It’s Christmas Day! Merry Christmas!

As we thought about what we wanted to post today, we wanted to talk about gifts…because that’s what is on everyone’s mind right now, right?

Well, we are here to tell you that YOU ARE A GIFT.

Thank you for being you. The world needs more of you, just as you are. This is not to say that we all can’t grow, change, evolve, and become even better versions of ourselves...we can, and we will all do that in our lives.

BUT, today we just want to remind you that YOU, as is, with all of your talents and quirks and individuality and loveliness that you bring to the world, are a gift, not only to us, but to everyone who encounters you.

So, thanks for the gift of you.

It is just what the world needs. So, don’t try to be someone else, just be you…because you are enough, and you are valuable, worthy, and loved.

Merry Christmas, and may we all be each other’s best gifts!

Much love from your favorite goof-balls,

Don't Miss The Thing - Day 24 #31DaysOfBlogging

Do you ever feel like you just miss the moment?

We saw this great post last month from our friend Brad Montague, and on Christmas Eve, it’s SUPER timely.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the build up to the moment, and then to get through with it and rehash the moment, but in all of this, we miss the ACTUAL moment. (Shoutout to any fellow Enneagram 7’s out there!) We have found a super great tool that will really allow you to REMEMBER the actual moment.

It’s called grounding yourself.

The way this works is when you’re right in the middle of something really cool, something you’ve anticipated, a really special event or moment, you stop and ground yourself. The way to do that is this:

Close your eyes.

Take a deep breath.

Feel how your feet feel, wiggle your toes.

Open your eyes.

Be still.

Look all around and take everything in.

Note something that “shimmers” or stands out to you.

Say something you are thankful for in the moment.

You can do this anywhere. In a car, on top of a mountain, at the dinner table, with a group, or on your own. We put this into practice during our trip to ICELAND and noticed that we really were able to remember each moment that we grounded ourselves.

Life goes by so quickly.

Even now, as we draw close to the end of another year, it’s so easy to just go through life without really noticing the small moments. This grounding exercise is a perfect thing to do to make sure you don’t miss out. Try it with your family over the holiday. Remember to take everything in.

Merry Christmas Eve!

When You Meet Your Idol In An Airport - Day 23 #31DaysOfBlogging

So, apparently this year was a year where we got to meet some of our favorite artists. Remember back in March we met Amy Grant? Epic.

Well in September, we got to meet another musical idol of ours, Patty Griffin. We saw her play at Red Rocks on September 30th, and the show was amazing.

The next morning, we loaded up our rental car, grabbed a coffee and bagel at Einstein Bros, and headed to the Denver airport. We were heading back to Nashville that afternoon.

We were sitting at the gate, as you do, drinking our Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Iced Coffee (Thank you, Lord,) and probably scrolling through Instagram, again, as you do. I (Jill) got on the phone to call the hair salon we go to in Nashville because I had to change our upcoming appointments.

As I’m talking to the receptionist, I look across the way from us, and sitting right there in plain sight, with a big bottle of Smart Water and a travel guitar case, is you guessed it, PATTY freaking GRIFFIN. Surely that is not her real middle name, but for the time being, let’s say that it is.

I would like to offer an honest apology to the receptionist at Hunter Paige Salon for what happened next.

I lost my ability to communicate. I start tapping Kate trying to subtly point out who was sitting there across from us...OUR FAVORITE SONGWRITER EVER. I am also trying to tell the receptionist that I need to change two appointments for Jill and Kate, but I can’t get out words, I tell her I am Kate, I tell her the wrong date, and I hear absolutely nothing she says to me in return.

Meanwhile, Kate is not getting my hints at what I am trying to tell her, and she is all but fully annoyed at me, and practically making a scene.

I tell the receptionist I will call her back. Some things can wait, ya know? (Sorry, again. I was probably so rude.)

I get off the phone and tell Kate, kind of like how Chandler says, “I’m-in-an-ATM-vestibule-with-Jill-Goodacre,” that “We’re-in-the-gate-area-with-Patty-Griffin.”

At this point, Kate understand what I’m saying, looks up, sees Patty, and proceeds to start weeping. YOU GUYS...WEEPING. (If you want to see this in real time — go to our instagram and watch the highlighted “Colorado” story.) She couldn’t control her emotions. JOIN ME, WON’T YOU? I’d been trying to tell her this for a matter of minutes.

Now, we are pretty careful when it comes to seeing notable people in public places. We know that they get approached a lot and we have a general rule that we really don’t approach them. But Kate insisted that this was a different scenario. This is our all-time favorite songwriter and we needed to just thank her for putting all of the goodness she has put into the world, for the ways she has inspired us in so many ways.

So after much back and forth, (I really didn’t want to at first,) we walked over to her and said that we had been at her show last night, it was incredible, and thanked her for making the art she has made...that she’s a huge inspiration to us. She was lovely and appreciative, and her manager (we think) was there with her who was also very kind to us.

As we got on the plane, we had this moment of realizing that we were flying to Nashville with Patty Griffin (okay, with may be a generous word) but we were sharing that space with her for two hours and that was pretty freaking cool.

Not sure why there is weird lighting…but this was the flight (!!!!)

Not sure why there is weird lighting…but this was the flight (!!!!)

Inspiration is such a huge part of life. It’s how we all keep going, it’s where we find creativity inside of us, it’s what really touches our souls. It was such a cool full circle moment for us to meet this woman who has inspired us so much in our songwriting journey.

When A Song Spills Out - Day 22 #31DaysOfBlogging

As songwriters, every once in a while, there is this magic thing that happens. The song just spills out. It’s not always the case. Sometimes we labor and labor over lyrics, melody, chord changes…but when the magic happens, and the song pours out, you never forget it. This has happened for us a few times, and the songs that have come out that way are the most honest songs we’ve ever written. My Love was one of those, Same Side was one of those, and this past year, Nashville became another one of those magic moments.

Nashville had been “home” for 10 years, and while there is so much to love about it, we also had had a lot of heartbreak there. There had been personal heartache and professional heartache, and we were feeling completely depleted. We had worked and worked, given and given, tried and tried, and it always felt like we were coming up short. We had friendships that struggled, relationships that failed, career opportunities that stung, and we felt at rock bottom.

The song Nashville spilled out of us one night in April, and we never even made changes to it after that night.

That is so rare for us. Usually we will edit a song, make some lyric changes down the road, but this song came out as it is to this day.

In September, we got to go into the studio and record it with one of our best friends, Luke DeJaynes. It is probably just one of the most important and personal songs we have ever written and recorded.

If you have ever felt like a person or a place has let you down, especially when you have REALLY tried to make it work, if you have ever felt like you are running on empty, if you have ever felt STUCK and like you just needed SOMETHING to change, we hope you can find a bit of reliability in this song. Yes, we wrote it about a town, but it’s honestly a love letter/breakup song about anything in your life that has caused you heartache. You can click the picture below to listen:

It’s been really amazing to see how you guys have connected with this song. That’s why we write. That’s we share the painful stories…because if we can make any of you listening feel less alone and say, “me too,” we know we are on the right track. Songwriting is so special and sacred to us. Thank you for allowing us into your story.

Speaking of songwriting…tomorrow we’re telling you about when we met our all-time favorite songwriter IN AN AIRPORT…

Much love,

Lullabies & Annie - Day 21 #31DaysOfBlogging

So, here’s the deal: our friend Jenny was pregnant for the 3rd time.

She had two little boys — one of which we are the proud Godmothers of (yes, still looking for Godfathers) but she was pregnant for maybe the last time and we wanted to do something special for her. See, since her boys were little, she’d been asking us to write a song for her kids to fall asleep to. So, we had this crazy idea to write her a whole album for this new baby she was carrying. We found out it was a girl and all was right in the world.

So, we did what we do, and started writing songs.

By the end, we had written an entire Lullabies album for this new little babe. Her name was Annie, but we were sworn to secrecy to not tell anyone. This album was for her (and her brothers) and we poured so much into it. Being at the end of this tremendously hard year of getting fired and facing all of these fears, it felt like a bright spot. We wrote songs that spoke life and hope and love over these little listening ears. We wanted these songs to communicate safety, hope and most importantly, love.

Since the album would be coming out before she was born, we could only put the instrumental version of the song on the album…because the actual song would’ve given away her name: Annie. But it’s weird. We wrote this song for this little love we’d never met, and yet, the song we wrote for her is TRUE.

Annie, Annie, the sun, it shines for you

Annie, Annie, our hearts beat for you too

You light up every room…You light up every room…

She really does, you guys.

Here is a pic of us going to meet her in the hospital. Jenny had requested that we bring a guitar and play her HER SONG.

If that’s not the most #Nashville thing we’ve ever done…

Look at what a little NUGGET she is. Just a couple hours old in the above pic. Annnnnd below is a pic of us with Annie & Jenny today. She is the light of every room and teaches us so much about joy. We cannot believe she turns 3 TODAY!

You can hear her FULL (officially unreleased) song here: ANNIE

Tomorrow we are going to tell you more about songwriting and how our latest single, Nashville, came — literally — pouring out of us.

Much love,

Jill and Kate

If You Can't Change A Tire, You Can Change Your Attitude - Day 20 #31DaysOfBlogging

Have you ever blown a tire? It’s just the worst feeling.

You hear it, you feel it, the thudding starts, and gets more and more intense, and even though time is passing at a normal rate, it feels like it takes 100 years to get to the shoulder of the road.

This happened to us this year, as we were in our pajamas on our way to a girls’ hang at our friend’s house in Nashville. It was 6pm on highway 65 in Nashville, which is just plain busy. It’s not an ideal time to have a tire blowout…(when really IS an ideal time for that?) But it’s definitely not ideal when you are IN YOUR PAJAMAS. Full on.

See, girls’ nights are the best, especially in PJs, (see GGN), but you just don’t expect to be in said PJs on the side of the highway as all of Nashville commuters pass you by.

Here’s the thing. We are 30-something single women. We should know how to change a tire, but guys, let’s be real here, we don’t. It’s just one of those things we both missed when it came to learning the practical parts of life.

So there we are, in our PJs, on the side of the road, with a blown tire, missing out on pizza, wine, and girl talk. We could’ve really been annoyed, ticked, angry, embarrassed, or any number of other negative emotions you could list, but we decided this:

If we couldn’t change a tire, at least we could change our attitude. (listen to our podcast about this here.)

So we decided to have a little fun with it. After calling AAA (Thank the good Lord for AAA,) we realized we had a guitar in the trunk, and that there was no better time or place than on the side of highway 65 in Nashville to whip out that little sucker and write a tune about our current circumstance. And that’s just what we did. We laughed and laughed, insta-storied the whole thing, and the time flew by until finally AAA arrived to save the day.

Here’s the thing. Those little inconveniences in life happen all the time.

A plane gets delayed. A friend bails on you. Your car breaks down. It’s just the way life goes. And we can be upset and annoyed if we choose to be, but we can also be light, easy, and free if we choose to be. What we’re finding is that life’s a lot more enjoyable, even with those negative circumstances, when we choose the latter.

So, give it a whirl. The next time you blow a tire or miss the bus, chip a tooth or get yelled at by a customer, try to find some good in it. Maybe even a little humor. Also, maybe if you don’t know how to change a tire, learn how to do that…we should too. Could we all take a class on that together? It sounds more fun that way!

Much love,

Tomorrow we are telling you all about the biggest secret project we’ve ever worked on…

Crushin' It - Day 19 #31DaysOfBlogging

Let’s talk about crushes for a minute.

First thing’s first: I wish there was another word for “crush” because the word just makes me feel like I’m in junior high, which is obviously NOT helpful to the situation…because having a crush is already weird. Am I right? Who can fix this for us? We need a new word.

Secondly: When you have a crush, it is simultaneously the best and the worst thing ever. It’s the best because you are all up in that infatuated-everything-is-glowing stage. The can’t-eat-can’t-sleep cliché business is a cliché for a reason, because it is TRUE. There is this weird and magical thing that takes over your body. And your brain. How is it possible to think of someone so often? How is it that everything you see reminds you of that person? The inside jokes, the last time you were with them — but really, how is it possible to think of someone that often? #crushes

Now, here’s why it’s also the worst.

It’s the worst for this reason: What if the person you have a crush on does not have a crush on you back? You are all lost in La-La Dream Land, and the other person is like: “Yeah, she cool.” But actually not interested and not aware that you are harboring such “crushing” feelings. This is terrifying. Just absolutely terrifying. And it’s vulnerable. I feel so exposed. I hate being in positions of weakness. I hate the thought of being hurt...of being, sorry, crushed. Especially when I have been many times before. It’s awful. Rejection is THE WORST.

If I’m honest, when I have a crush, I usually try to shut it down in my mind. I keep telling myself the other person is not interested. Why would they ever be interested in me? I keep playing the past failed relationships and rejections in my mind. Anybody with me? I know these are lies, but this is what I’m fighting. The lie that says I’m not good enough and I’m not worth loving or being pursued. But I’m working on exposing those lies and not believing them.

I also think it’s tough because I do really want a relationship. I want an awesome man in my life. I don’t think I’m picky, but I have some really, REALLY, amazing people in my life. The bar has been set high for who I let into my life and who I make time for. So, it’s hard when you find someone that genuinely interests you because it feels so rare. Like finding a gem in a pile of rocks. Or a unicorn.

So, anyway, if you are reading this and also have a crush — here is my best advice for navigating (based on what I am trying to do myself —it’s hard, btw.)

  1. Keep being yourself.

Don’t shy away from being your true self to try and get the other person to like you more. It’s like my good friend Ally Fallon said in our podcastwhen we are faced with rejection, our tendency is to shy away from who we are. BUT, we need to do the opposite. If you’re rejected, commit to FULLY being yourself. When we are rejected, we try and change — to fit in more — because the lie is that maybe then there will be less rejection. But that’s a lie. So, lean into more of who you really are.

  2. Affirm yourself early and often.

Remind yourself constantly of who you are. Take your hand to your heart right now. Is there a beating feeling? If yes, then that means that you are absolutely, 100%, undoubtedly worthy of love. If the answer was no, you might be dead so you should probably seek medical attention. But honestly, you are so loved. So LOVED. If you have blood pumping through your veins, you are here for a reason, a purpose, and you are so wildly loved. You are worthy of a loving relationship.

  3. Ask your friends for advice, but ultimately, trust yourself.

Your intuition is telling you things. Yes, sometimes when we are in that La-La crush mode 😍, our vision can be a little rosy or unrealistic and this is where your inner circle of people you trust and who LOVE YOU come into play. Ask them for advice/wisdom. However, at the end of the day, trust yourself. This is something that is probably the hardest for me. I struggle with intense self-doubt. I want to lean on my friends and the advice of others vs. trusting myself and listening to my own still small voice. This is a practice for me…I’m learning how to trust myself more and more. (Hear our podcast about trusting your gut here.)

  4. Lean into the crush.

Not actually physically…or umm, yes, do that too (wink wink, nudge-nudge 😉), but allow yourself to really feel it. Thank God & the Universe for sending you this crush. See it as a teacher. Allow yourself to enjoy it and surrender to NOT KNOWING THE OUTCOME. Oh dang, this is THE HARDEST part. You can be all affirmed and kicking self-doubt’s butt and conquering the world, but guess what? You cannot control other people. You cannot control the outcome of a relationship. If you are in the crush stage or if you’ve been married for 100 years — you still cannot control other people. Surrender the outcome. Be intentional. Have a vision of what you want. Know you deserve it, but surrender the outcome.

So there you have it, friends. The wonderful and the weird world of being all googly-eyed over someone.

Here’s to enjoying it and leaning into more and more of who we really are.

You are enough. You don’t need to be someone else.

Much love,

LAUGH! - Day 18 #31DaysOfBlogging

What’s better than wine, friends, and laughter? It’s like the trifecta of awesome. We got the chance to go to Napa in April with two of our closest friends, Whitney and Jess. We went to dream up some ideas….more on that soon.

(We are working on putting together a retreat for YOU to come to where we dream, laugh, drink wine, and get inspired. Can’t wait to share more of this with you. )

IMG_9847 (1).jpg

Another thing we got to do while we were in Napa for this trip was to go see our favorite comedian, Kathleen Madigan. We’ve learned that laughter truly CHANGES things. There’s a reason why it is said that it’s the best medicine. We believe it. We take any chance we get to laugh. We were so stoked that Kathleen happened to have a show in Napa while we were there! Her show was amazing, as always, and if you ever get the chance to see her LIVE, go!

Life can get so serious. All of us humans are under a lot of pressure to perform, provide, do, do, do all the time. Sometimes you need to escape the pressure and just laugh. Life is funny, after all. It’s not all serious.

As you head home for the holidays, or to in-laws, or whatever you may be doing, make sure to add laughter to the mix. Play some funny games, drink some wine, and watch these Kathleen Madigan specials on Netflix. The whole fam will love them!

Tomorrow the blog is all about answering your burning questions about if we’ve been dating on the walkabout. Hint hint…we have! And we’ve got stories for you!

Much love,

A Birthday Poem For Kate - Day 16 #31DaysOfBlogging

Guys, it’s KATE’S BIRTHDAY! Instead of writing a plain old blog all about the wonder that is “Kate the Great Rapier,” I decided to write a little poem instead. Send her tons of love today! -Jill

This poem is all about Kate

Who is a wondrous gift to this earth

Today is a special date

Today is the day of her birth

She prefers her eggs without yolks

And loves to do handstands all over

She laughs at her very own jokes

And is a gift to all who know her

She harmonizes like no other

And she's really one heck of a writer

She's mostly brave, except one thing

She’s terrified of spiders

Red, white, or even rosé

Kate will drink wine on any day

But don't forget, she has another passion

Her feelings are deep for a classic old fashioned

Cheese plates are her favorite

And gummy candies too

She loves to take pictures, and if you're in need

She'll take a picture for you

The water is her favorite

But she loves mountains too

She's famous for her eyeliner

And lives on dry shampoo

She'll make you a meal or give you a ride

Her generosity is on fire

She's vibrant, positive, and fully alive

Her gift is to inspire

So here's the thing I'd like you to do

If you happen to have just a minute

Tell Kate that the world is a better place

Simply because she's in it!

#HandsDownExcited - Day 15 #31DaysofBlogging

In honor of Kate’s birthday coming up tomorrow, we would like to present to you this very special edition of #31DaysofBlogging featuring Kate doing handstands in all the places we’ve visited this past year.

Okay, maybe not ALL the places, but she has really gotten great at these handstands, and it’s been so fun documenting them all across the country/world. It has become sort of a weird J&K tradition to do these. You already know we love jumping pics, but the Kate handstand might be our next favorite!

Also, props to Jill for snapping these shots. We really try to be a team in every way, you guys. HAHA! Check it out!

4 Words That Changed My Life - Day 14 #31DaysOfBlogging

I want to tell you about 4 words that changed my life.

They are not magical words, and you don’t need to jump on one foot and spin around while saying them. LOL. But, I do think the words have some sort of magic sprinkled within them.

Here’s the thing about these words. When I started saying them, they were not true.

They held no meaning. It almost felt like I was lying because I wanted them to be true. I actually desperately wanted them to be true, but when I first started saying them, they were not.

Flash forward about 19 months and I can say that they are ABSOLUTELY true and they’ve literally changed my life.

So you’re probably asking, “WHAT ARE THE WORDS, KATE??”

Have you seen people on Instagram put the caption “I love my life.” I swear I kept seeing it everywhere and each time I saw it I would roll my eyes. See, I was in a season where I was low. It was a year after being fired and my life felt like it was legitimately falling apart before my very eyes. Security felt like a pipe dream. I felt like I was losing everything…even my own voice.

I questioned my talent to sing and my ability to write. Blogging scared me. See, I had written a blog that felt like it had blown up my whole life. So anytime I went to write, the traumatic experience was triggered.

So there I was, minding my own business, silently judging people who posted that they loved their life. And I felt this inner struggle. This pull. I wanted to love my life. I had in the past and I wanted it back. I talk to God all the time. God is my higher power and it’s sort of something I do: talk to God.

I was talking to God about how I wanted to love my life, but I had a laundry list of things He needed to change for me in order for me to say that I loved my life. So, there I was, telling God what was up, and I felt like I heard God say (not out loud, but just in my spirit)…I felt like He was saying: “I want you to start saying that you love your life. Right now. Before anything changes.”

And I was like….whuuuuuuuut? Ummm no. It’s not true. I don’t love my life. Have you not heard my laundry list of requests? The things I need you to change? Once those things are in order….THEN, I can say I love my life. So, get to it God. Thanks yo.

And again, I felt it so strongly in my spirit. “I need you to start saying that you love your life…now….I need you to say it like you believe it. Like it’s true.“

I thought it was sort of ridiculous, but I decided to listen. The next morning, laying in my bed — before I checked my phone or did anything else — I looked at my ceiling fan spinning and said out loud:

“I LOVE MY LIFE. Thanks, God, for another day.”

You guys. These 4 words changed my life:

I don’t even know how to explain it or quantify it for you…but things started to shift. Things I had wanted to see happen, suddenly started happening. Areas in my life that I felt were deserts all of sudden felt like there was water flowing.

I challenge you today, if you are needing a change…a boost, start your day by saying these four words: I LOVE MY LIFE. Say it in the face of what seems like untruth. Say it over and over again.

I still, to this day, say those words out loud at the beginning of each day. I am going to tell you more about the details of what transpired in a couple weeks…stay tuned to the blog…but I want you to know that sometimes you have to start speaking things out. Declare them. Use your words to shape your life. To transform your life.

Even if it’s not true right now, I get it. It wasn’t true for me either. But, I believe words have power and they can change things. Give it a try. You might just be surprised.
To hear more about this idea of these four words on our podcast, listen to this episode: Can 4 Words Change Your Life?

YOU can change your life. Start with your words.

JLo or Bust? - Day 13 #31DaysOfBlogging

One of the awesome things about the walkabout this year was being able to randomly just decide to go wherever we felt like going. We were over at our friend Betsy’s house one day and somehow started talking about the wonder that is JLo.

Yes, Jenny from the block. Jennifer Lopez.

IMG_9934 2.jpg

Who knows how she came up in our conversation, but one thing led to another and before long, we were on her website checking out her tour dates in Vegas.

Lo” and behold, (get it?) there were only a handful of shows left....we decided we couldn’t miss this, and so we picked a date, bought our tickets, and booked our trips to Vegas for the end of April.

Now, JLo was what really prompted us to go, and we danced away to Let’s Get Loud and Waiting For Tonight, but we ended up doing so much more. We stayed at an AMAZING hotel called The Palazzo. The hotel is incredible, and really you never even have to leave. There are about a billion restaurants, amazing pools, and of course plenty of gambling. (You WANT to stay at this a room at, the best place to book all kinds of amazing suites!)

Gambling is one of those things that is either super fun or super depressing. See, when you’re winning, it’s the best feeling ever. It’s thrilling. The sound of a slot machine ching-ching-chinging when you hit the jackpot, or the feeling of those chips in your hand when you beat the blackjack dealer. It’s INVIGORATING.

But when you’re losing, it’s the worst. You start to really hate the fact that you got sucked into this to begin with. You see people around you winning, try to lurk near their winning machines (like the lurker in FRIENDS, remember her?), and start to question your whole life.

Life can be like this sometimes. There are ups and downs. There are times when you’re winning and times when you’re losing. There are times when you’re just breaking even and it’s fun just to play. We actually learned a lot from our trip to Vegas, which we talk more about here in this podcast episode, Gambling and Taking Breaks.

A little piece of encouragement for you today:

It’s okay to take a break sometimes. There are times where you get spontaneous and book the JLo tickets, and there are times when you need to just lie on your couch and binge F-R-I-E-N-D-S and eat nachos. Both are fine. Balance is important. So whatever that is for you today, find the balance you need in your life. And if you go to Vegas, put $20 on black 17 for us.

Until tomorrow, best of luck to you…and may you find the balance you need.

PS. Just in case you were hungry — this will make you more hungry — some of the yummy food we ate while in Vegas! YES PLEASE. Here for it.
