Pretty Cocktails Taste Better

Two weeks ago was Thanksgiving and we attended a friend of ours' Friendsgving with some old & new friends. It was a great time! We all brought dishes and I (along with actual food items) assigned myself the job of bringing a festive Thanksgiving-y cocktail. (That's right, no one asked, but I just gave myself the job.)

I searched the Internet high & low. Okay, I looked at Pinterest for 3.5 minutes & found THIS GEM.

Yes, this is the one I actually made :) Woohoo!

It's a Cranberry Thyme Gin & Tonic. It satisfies my 2 quotas for fun cocktails:

  • It's easy to make in the moment (any prep work can be done ahead of thyme...sorry, I couldn't help myself.)
  • It looks pretty.

Cause let's all be honest, pretty drinks taste better. This has the perfect coloring for the holidays because it's red & green! Also, it's EASY AS PIE (I had hell, but Jill said PIE sounded less harsh. *winky face*)

Here's the recipe & here are my amendments:

-Don't overcook the cranberry concoction...the longer you cook it, the thicker it gets. I did mine for about 10 minutes & it worked great. You don't want a paste.

Here are the cranberries, water & sugar doing their thing. I added the thyme for a short time because I didn't want the thyme to overwhelm the flavor. Say that 5 times fast.

-I would double the recipe for the cranberry/Thyme mix. I didn't do that & made 6 drinks with it (for 6 different people, stop judging!) It would have been nice to have more on hand to make a second round with but alas, I did not...so we had to make regular Gin & tonics.

-You can also make this a festive mocktail! Just leave out the Gin & no one will know you're abstaining.

I seriously love G&T's. I just do. They're refreshing & lovely.

Don't forget the sprig of fresh thyme for garnish. It's a crowd pleaser. I also froze some fresh cranberries & used them as ice & garnish.

Everybody will cheese so hard with their pretty cocktail! Yay!

Ok lovely people. Get making those pretty cocktails (if you are legal.) Also, what are your favorite pretty cocktails? I would covet any new recipes.

Much love,

-Kate

PS. I'm on vacation right now & NO LIE, as I'm walking to my beach chair (alone) this man walks up to me with a gallon jug of rum & asks me to hold it for him in a picture. Whaaaaaaat? I did. It was fine. Kind of awkward. Should've asked for a tip or something. He didn't speak English and I just stood there holding a gallon jug of rum like a yahoo. It's like alcohol just finds me. So, if anyone sees that pic floating around the internet...tag me. YOLO.

This is vacation (!!!!!!)
