Office Space (#31DaysofBlogging)

This blog is a part of a series #31DaysofBlogging … we are going through the year (2015) chronologically.

We got back from Canada and we were inspired. We were refreshed, renewed and encouraged to look forward instead of holding onto the negative that was behind us.

So we decided we needed some newness. We’ve learned in the past few years the idea that doing something in the physical CHANGES things in the emotional/spiritual realm. Like, think about how if you’re feeling down and crappy...and you’re lying on the couch, things don’t really change. You just keep feeling down and crappy. But if you go outside and take a walk or if you get up and bake some cookies, your mood can be shifted. It’s the physical act of doing something different than what you’re currently doing.

So we got back to Nashville and decided we needed a new “Jill and Kate” workspace. We have always done all of our work/writing/productivity in one of our living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, or in random coffee shops across town (shoutout to Panera Breads nation-wide, Frothy Monkey {both 12th South + Franklin} and The Coffee House.) This has been great, but we needed a dedicated “space” and now was the perfect time to work on that.

So we cleared out the basement of Jill’s house and went to town. We ripped up the flooring (yes, just call us DIYers) and we gave it a good deep clean. We got some desks in there so we could have a proper place to sit down and do work. We put our favorite white couch down there and created a writing area, and we organized the crap out of that room. It was such a fulfilling project. We got our hands dirty and created a beautiful space that would become the place where we run all things Jill and Kate from.

This may sound simple or petty, but it signified some new beginnings for us. We had been so discouraged the few months before that we wondered if we should even keep going with Jill and Kate. We’ve been at this a long time and there have been mountaintops and there have been valleys. This year we took a big dip and wondered if maybe we should just call it. But, we aren’t ready to call it. We have so many songs in us and you guys have been so encouraging to us...you make us want to keep going. We just needed a fresh start and this office space was a tangible place where we could kick off these new beginnings.

New, fresh, space. With zebra print…obviously.

We’ve done so many cool things in this office space/studio already...which we’ll tell you more about as the ‘blogging through the year’ goes on this month. We’ll share with you our Song On The 17th for this month which we wrote in that very office! That’s coming up on Thursday...but stay tuned all week for more from our adventures in 2015…

PS: We’ve decided after writing this that naming our office “Office Space” is boring...we need a proper name for this room. Leave us your suggestions for what we should call this place in the comments!
